Itinerary

Arrive in Cape Town and transfer to your hotel via Uber or Bolt. Your e-visa is included as part of your package. After check-in, take the day to relax and adjust to the local time before race weekend. If time allows, head to the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Expo to collect your race bib and soak up the pre-race excitement.

Meal: None

After breakfast, discover the best of Cape Town on a guided city tour, taking in its vibrant streets, historic sites, and cultural highlights. We'll also make a stop at the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Expo before returning to the hotel. Later, enjoy a welcome lunch at one of South Africa's oldest and most celebrated vineyards. Round off the day at the official Sanlam Cape Town Marathon Concert—complimentary for runners, with companion tickets available for purchase.

Meal: Breakfast and Lunch

If you’ve signed up for the optional 5K or 10K event as part of the Cape Town Marathon weekend, you’ll head out early to the stadium to take on your race. Alternatively, you can ease into the day with a relaxed 5K shake-out run alongside fellow runners. The rest of the day is yours to unwind, explore Cape Town at your own pace, or simply rest ahead of race day.

Yes, all of our Abbott World Marathon Majors tours include guaranteed race entry.

No qualifying time required. All marathon runners must be 18+ on race day.

As tour operators, we are required to sell the race entry along with accommodation. It will not be possible to buy just the race entry.

Yes, all the World Marathon Majors require that the participants attend the expo in person and collect their bibs. Your travel documents will contain detailed instructions on how to get to and from the expo from your hotel.

Please contact us if you would like to add extra nights before or after your trip. If you book your additional nights with the hotel directly, please note that you will have to change your room in order to stay in the room allotted to you as part of the group booking for the duration of the trip. Please refrain from requesting us or the hotel reception to allow you to remain in the same room if you book your extra nights through the hotel directly - with the high demand for rooms, such requests will unfortunately have to be automatically declined.

We have several single travellers interested in sharing a room with another traveller and, wherever possible, we try to pair up people who have requested rooms on a twin share basis. However, please keep in mind that this is not a guarantee and in some cases, you might be required to take a single room.

Yes, it is possible for us to organise accommodation for you if you already have the entry or if you are travelling with a non-running companion. However, please note that this will be at the same hotel as the rest of the group travelling on our package.

Unfortunately, no. All travellers stay at the designated group hotel to ensure everyone enjoys the trip together and benefits from the shared group experience. As your booking is part of a group reservation, we cannot arrange accommodation at a different hotel.

With easy access to the start or finish areas, you'll spend less time commuting and more time enjoying race weekend. Choose between our well-appointed 3, 4, and 4.5 star hotel options, each offering excellent service, modern amenities, and a comfortable base for your marathon experience.

Sanlam Cape Town Marathon does not allow runners to transfer their spots to another runner or to defer to another year. If you do not run the race as registered, you lose your entry, and cancellation charges as per the policy will apply.

Active Holiday Company does not offer services for visas and flights. However, we can point you to service providers who offer these services.

She celebrated her 40th birthday by running half a dozen half marathons in as many locations - including a race to the lowest point on earth (The Dead Sea Ultra Run in Jordan) and then trekked to the base camp of the world’s highest mountain – the Mt. Everest – a trip that became a turning point in her life. And, finally at this tender age she bought herself a hybrid bicycle to replace her depreciated car! Voted one of the Most Influential Persons in the Travel Industry by NDTV Profit and Travel News Digest (2014), she also a published author. She has lent her expertise to leading travel magazines as a writer and jury member. To her adventure means daring to follow one’s beliefs with conviction, even though sometimes they could take you to the end of the world!

Cancel between 01 Jan 2027 and 28 Feb 2027: 50% cancellation fee
Cancel on or after 01 Mar 2027: 100% cancellation fee

TRANSFER & DEFERRAL

  • For race entry packages, your non-refundable deposit is valid only for the specific event and year of your booking
  • Your non-refundable deposit cannot be transferred to another event or another year, even if Active Holiday Company is the official travel partner. The only exception is if the event organiser permits a deferral or a transfer of your race entry (with or without a fee)
  • Bookings without race entry can be transferred as per policy applicable to the booking

OTHER CONDITIONS

  • All costs exclude GST 5% and  2% TCS (for bookings made in India).
  • All digital payments, including UPI, attract a 3% Platform Fee. Partial payments will be charged the fee to the extend that is paid via the digital platform. To avoid the 3% please arrange a direct bank transfer.
  • Our prices are per person. Even if you have booked a single room for your exclusive use it is mandatory to pay for all your travel companions.
  • The use of any service, including hotel services, by anyone who is not a paid participant is strictly prohibited.
  • Active Holiday Company reserves the right to amend prices if the currency fluctuates more than 5%.
  • Use and promotion of competitor brands, products and logos - specifially of any company involved in selling marathon trips is strictly prohibited on all Active Holiday Company trips. This can result in your removal from our trip without any refund and refusal on future trips.

  • The cost of flights, visas, passport, insurance is not included in the tour price unless stated otherwise
  • Any meals not mentioned as included are at your own expense
  • Single rooms, optional tours, and extra nights cost extra
  • Arrival and departure transfers are not be included in your tour price
  • Excess baggage, porterage, laundry, phone calls, and alcoholic beverages are considered personal expenses and not included in your tour price
  • GST, VAT, and other taxes as applicable in India are additional to the tour price

Wonderful Experience with Gauri and the Team

Extraordinary experience

Cape Town Marathon was just amazing. You couldn’t have asked for better weather, a fabulous picturesque route, incredible community support and superb arrangements. The energy throughout the course was electrifying and every stretch offered breathtaking views. The volunteers, spectators and fellow runners made the entire experience truly memorable. And when it comes to Active Holidays, Gauri and her team never settle for anything less than perfect. From the excellent hotel stay — just 500 meters from the start line for me — to the wonderful get-together with fellow runners, the city tour, partial route recce, pre-race lunch and post-race dinner, everything was thoughtfully planned and exceptionally well managed.
